30 Days Wear is Possible with Night and Day Contact Lenses

Any contacts can be worn continuously for up to 30 days, but Night and Day contact lenses are certified by the FDA to let you do it safely. Their special design allows your eyes to function normally while providing 24 hours of clear vision. If you'd like more than a week of extended wear from your contacts, Night and Day contact lenses may be right for you.

In the early 80's, some contact lenses were approved for up to 30 days of continuous wear. But at the time, it wasn't known how much oxygen the eye's cornea needed to function in a healthy manner. And in 1989, the FDA withdrew approval for 30-day lenses when it was shown that there was an increased risk of eye infection with the lenses. Since then, Night and Day contact lenses have been the first lenses approved for up to 30 days continuous wear.

The reason that Night and Day contact lenses are able to provide long-term continuous wear is twofold. The first is that the lenses allow up to six times more oxygen to get to your cornea than a regular lens. This greater oxygen flow to your cornea makes the contacts much safer to wear for extended periods.

The second reason for the effectiveness of Night and Day contact lenses is due to a special coating they have. Part of the problem with wearing contacts for extended periods is that they accumulate buildups of bacteria and deposits from your tears. The lens coating is biocompatible, which means that your body tends to treat the lenses like another body part. And so the contacts don't interfere with your tears natural ability to keep your eyes clean.

Because Night and Day contact lenses are a soft lens, they fit you eye evenly and comfortably. And due to their greater oxygen flow and biocompatibility, they can be worn comfortably for long periods.
